Flight Path Tutorial: Step Five
Data Configuration Details

Overlays tab provides controls for the overlay fields:
States - US state borders (Canadian Provinces coming soon).
VORs - Selected VOR stations used for locating AIRMET and SIGMET advisories.
TAFs - Selected airports reporting Terminal Forecasts.
Counties - US county borders.
Rivers - Selected US rivers.
Wind Barbs - Wind barbs derived from RUC model output. The density of barbs may be changed in two dimensions by clicking on the More and Fewer radio buttons.

Grids tab provides controls for the display of gridded data.
Show Background Grid Field - Controls whether any background color-filled graphic is shown or hidden on the map display.
Show Topography On Map - Controls whether the topography data (shown using a brown color) is displayed or not. Multiple resolutions of topography are available but beware the high-resolution data comprise very large files and thus are slow to download.

AIR/SIGMETs tab provides controls for the display of advisories:
Show AIR/SIGMETs On Map - Shows or hides advisories on the map display. This is equivalent to clicking the AIR/SIGMETs radio button on the main map display, toggling the visibility of advisories without changing the configuration (which types are shown).
Auto Update - Enables/disables the auto update function. If auto update is turned on, new advisories will appear when they become available. If it is turned off, a yellow warning will appear on the map display when new advisories become available.
Show Heights - Displays the advisory heights.
Update Now - Downloads the most current advisories from the server. This button must be used to get update advisories when Auto Update is turned off.
Show/Hide By Type - Show or hides different types of advisories. Click on a specific type to toggle its visibility.
Altitude Slider - Selects an altitude range for the displayed advisories. By default all advisories are shown. To narrow the altitude range of displayed advisories, drag the orange beads at the top or bottom of the slider. Advisories which do not overlap the selected range will not appear in the map display.

PIREPs tab provides controls for the display of PIREP data:
Show PIREPs On Map - Shows or hides PIREPs on the map display. This is equivalent to clicking the PIREPs radio button on the main map display, toggling the visibility of PIREPs without changing the configuration (which types are shown).
Auto Update - Coming soon.
Show Heights - Displays the PIREP heights.
Displayed Type - Selects the type of PIREPs shown on the map display. Only one type may be shown at a time. A legend of PIREP images is provided to the right of the radio buttons.

METARs tab is a place-holder for the near future:
METARs are not included in the initial release of the applet.

If finished with the tutorial, close this browser window by clicking the "X" in the upper right corner of the window or choose File->Close from the File menu at the top of the window.
